US television streaming service Netflix has announced a forthcoming musical drama series called ‘The Eddy’, set in contemporary multi-cultural Paris; revolving around a jazz club, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them. It will feature dialogue in English, French and Arabic.

The eight episodes will be executive produced by Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle, whose passion for jazz has already been established with blockbuster films ‘La La Land’ and ‘Whiplash’. It’s written by five-time BAFTA Award-winning and Olivier-winning writer Jack Thorne (National Treasure, This is England, Wonder) featuring an original music score by Glen Ballard (who has written or produced with dozens of artists as wide ranging as Patti Austin, Teddy Pendergrass, Michael Jackson, Curtis Stigers and Aerosmith).

Chazelle said, “I've always dreamed of shooting in Paris, so I'm doubly excited to be teaming up with Jack and Glen on this story, and thrilled that we have found a home for it at Netflix.“

Earlier this year, Damien Chazelle was awarded the Jazz FM ‘Impact Award’, which recognised the notable effect his work is having on bringing jazz to wider audiences.
