Curtis Stigers to release new live big band album

The singer is channelling the music of Sinatra and Count Basie

In 1966, magic was made on the stage of the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, when the timeless cool of Frank Sinatra met the robust swing of the Count Basie Orchestra. ‘Sinatra at the Sands’ has remained a beloved classic ever since, particularly for singer and saxophonist Curtis Stigers.

This is his first live album recorded with the Danish Radio Big Band at their headquarters – the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen – nearly three years ago. They pay tribute to the great musicianship, songwriting and arranging of Nelson Riddle and Billy May, releasing the recording to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Sinatra’s original. The concert was originally intended just as a one-off broadcast, but Curtis and his management team were easily persuaded to produce a full commercial release.

Tracks include ‘Come Fly With Me’, ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ and ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’.

‘One More for the Road’ is out on Concord Jazz on January 6th 2017.

Curtis Stigers hosts a special Christmas radio programme on Jazz FM at 10am on December 25th.
