A burst water pipe in the building of a popular Manchester city centre music venue and jazz bar has led to cancellations and revealed more than they bargained for. Matt and Phred’s was forced to close after being flooded by a leak from the floor above.

Investigating the leak led the club operators to discover that they may have inadvertently been paying the water bills for other surrounding businesses for as long as four and a half years. This was put in a statement on their Facebook page, which has since been removed.

Matt and Phred’s owner Clare Turner said, “It’s not a problem with the club, there is a leak in the building which we are still trying to find. It was stopped but we went back in at half six this morning and it had started again. It has completely destroyed my club.”
