Christian McBride pays tribute to Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali on new album

The Grammy winning bassist has pulled out all the stops for his ‘Moment Revisited’ project

Grammy winning bassist Christian McBride has given us a taste of his new album - it’s called ‘The Movement Revisited - a Musical Portrait of Four Icons’; namely Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali. Christian has employed famous actors to play the voices of these great figures (Sonia Sanchez, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Wendell Pierce and Dion Graham) and musicians involved include singers Alicia Olatuja and J.D. Steele, plus the late great trumpeter Lew Soloff. The project, which has taken two years to put together, uses Christian’s famous big band and a choir called The Voices of the Flame (from Abyssinian Baptist Church). Announcing the project on social media, he said “I can’t begin to tell you what this piece means to me”. It’s released on Mack Avenue records on February 7th with track listing below:
