Six-time GRAMMY-winning bassist Christian McBride has revealed the details for his new album, For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver - a big band tribute to Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery and Oliver Nelson.

In September 1966, organist Jimmy Smith and guitarist Wes Montgomery got together at Rudy Van Gelder’s famed studio. Over the course of three days, the two jazz icons recorded the material for two now-classic albums: The Dynamic Duo (1966) and Further Adventures of Jimmy and Wes (1968), backed by a big band featuring arrangements by the great Oliver Nelson.

The album, which solidifies Christian's propensity to merge the past and future, features special guests Joey DeFrancesco and Mark Whitfield, with Christian saying that he wanted to honour the historical legacy of the jazz legends who shaped the soul of music for generations to come.

When is 'For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver' out?

For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver is out September 25th through Mack Avenue Records and will be the widely acclaimed bassist's 14th outing as band leader, with more than 300 recordings to his name.
