Charlie Parker's story to be told in a graphic novel
The story of Charlie Parker is set to be told in a graphic novel - 'Chasin' the Bird'
Jazz scholar and cartoonist Dave Chisholm is set to tell the story of legendary saxophonist Charlie Parker through a new graphic novel - Chasin' the Bird: Charlie Parker in California.
Named after Parker's 1947 jazz standard, Chasin' the Bird focusses on a time when the iconic saxophonist was in California in the mid-1940s, including his relationship with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, his admission into a mental hospital and the groundbreaking recordings he made that became his most famous works.
When it's released in September, the book will come with a limited edition vinyl 45, all part of what would have been Parker’s 100th birthday on 29th August.
