Legendary saxophonist Charles Lloyd is set to release a new live album which documents his 80th birthday celebrations called '8: Kindred Spirits'. Lloyd released his first single from the album, 'Reqiuem', to announce the release.

Back in March 2018, Lloyd took over the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, for a special concert featuring his musical friends including pianist Gerald Clayton, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland, with special guests Booker T. Jones and Blue Note President Don Was joining the ensemble. Impressively, Lloyd has played at the 150-year-old adobe theatre in downtown Santa Barbara more often than any other venue, and more often than any other performer.

The release will not only include the live recording but a DVD documentary, a 96-page hardcover book and 2 photo prints that commemorate the first 8 decades of Charles’s life. It’s called ‘8: Kindred Spirits’ and will be released February the 14th.
