Celebrations for Tony Bennett’s 90th
The stars are coming out to honour a jazz legend.
The public celebrations surrounding Tony Bennett’s 90th started on his actual birth date – August 3rd and will culminate in a huge Christmas concert, broadcast on NBC television.
In the summer, his home city of New York held a number of special events, including a window display of Tony’s original artwork, and the Empire State Building was lit up in his honour – with a lightshow set to a soundtrack of his biggest hits.
The 19-time Grammy winning singer made headlines over the Thanksgiving weekend, when he was performing on a parade float and nearly fell over – but luckily was saved by a quick thinking Miss Piggy!
NBC Television is broadcasting a special concert on December 20th, filmed in front of a live audience at Radio City Music Hall and featuring performances or duets with Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, Elton John, Billy Joel, Kevin Spacey and Homer Simpson!
A deluxe 3 CD set is due to be released containing the entire concert recording, plus rare and previously unreleased studio and live performance tracks from across his career. The set also includes a 28-page booklet with a comprehensive decade-by-decade account of Tony’s life and career written by Will Friedwald.
'Tony Bennett Celebrates 90' is released worldwide on December 16th.
