American jazz vocalist and songwriter Cassandra Wilson is to make a welcome return to London for a date at Royal Festival Hall on November 15th as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

Wilson’s new album ‘Coming Forth By Day’ is an atmospheric and bold personal interpretation of Billie Holiday’s famous recordings. It was released to coincide with Billie Holiday’s centenary on April 7th and incorporates vintage blues, country and folk music influences projecting the music into a David Lynch-like sphere offering a truly refreshing approach to already well covered songs and standards associated with ‘Lady Day’.

"A dream of mine is happening," says Cassandra Wilson, "I've been in love with Billie Holiday's voice since the moment I heard it, and she has inspired me throughout my career."

"I couldn't wait to get inside of this material and spruce it up, reinvent it, do some wild and crazy things to it. I’m in that line of singers that really mine the emotional content of a song. You steer clear of the cliches and go straight for the heart of the song.”
