British jazz artists line-up to support 'Jazz For Labour'

A major concert called ‘Jazz For Labour: A Concert for Fairness and Diversity’ has been announced at London’s Barbican on Friday February 27th 2015.

The event is scheduled during the build up to the General Election in May next year. Artists performing will include saxophonist Courtney Pine, singer Claire Martin and Manchester clarinettist Arun Ghosh. 

Inspiration comes from ‘Jazz For Obama’, a concert in New York in 2012. In the run up to the Presidential campaign major US jazz artists including Roy Haynes, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joe Lovano, Geri Allen, Ravi Coltrane and Christian McBride played at New York’s Symphony Space.

Jazz For Labour will also include Soweto Kinch, Ian Shaw, Liane Carroll, Gary Crosby, Christine Tobin, Andy Sheppard, John Etheridge, Phil Robson, Jay Phelps, Tim Garland and Dave O’Higgins plus American Darius Brubeck with more to be announced. 

Parliamentary candidate Bob Blizzard of Jazz For Labour says, “It’s great that so many of our best jazz artists want to come together and, through their music, express support for Labour’s values of fairness and diversity.”
