12 year old Indonesian pianist Joey Alexander, who has wowed the jazz world with his stunning musicality and age defying technique, has reached a new peak as his album ‘My Favorite Things’ hit No. 59 on the Billboard 200 Chart. This is a broad chart that includes Adele’s ’25’ at No. 1 and sees Joey higher than Metallica.
This follows his profile on CBS’ 60 Minutes TV show, aired on January 3rd, creating a 3,563% surge in sales. It also lands Alexander his first No. 1 on both the Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts.
'My Favorite Things' is Alexander's debut album for Motema Music. Last year it was nominated for a GRAMMY in two categories: Instrumental Jazz Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. Joey is the youngest ever GRAMMY nominee in a jazz category.
