Agadoo-n't! Black Lace singer keen to dump the legacy of his hit, with soul

Dene Michael, of one-hit wonder pop group Black Lace, is to appear on BBC1 show ‘The Voice’ this weekend singing a well known George Benson song. 

Cruelly etched into the psyche of most 1980s party go-ers and today’s wedding reception guests is Dene’s hit song ‘Agadoo’ which gamely encourages fun with pineapples and the shaking of trees. But in a serious attempt to shed the cheesy stigma of ‘Agadoo’ 57 year old Dene is keen to impress the judges with a soul classic.

“What it is with Black Lace, people don’t take you seriously. In fact I think we got voted the second worst song of all time. I rang up and said I’d like a recount because I’d like to be No.1,” he quipped. “This is my opportunity to show the world I can actually sing. I’m known for Black Lace but originally I was a soul singer.”

He will do this dressed in a bright yellow Hawaiian shirt. It’s surely a win win!
