Acclaimed guitarist Chuck Loeb dies aged 61

Loeb was a member of fusion groups Steps Ahead and Fourplay

Acclaimed New York jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb has died at the age of 61, the news was announced by his family on social media yesterday. Loeb was well known for his close association and friendship with saxophonist Stan Getz, and his work with Michael Brecker, who he credited as an influence and mentor. He was a long-time member of Brecker’s fusion group Steps Ahead, and of the band Fourplay since 2010.

Loeb's solo albums earned him three Grammy nominations in recent years.
