A special double bill closes the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho on Sunday November 22 - the New York Standards Quartet launch their new album ‘Power of 10’ and debut at Pizza Express for Alex Garnett’s Bunch of 5.

Both bands are reknowned for their forward thinking approach to the hard bop tradition and  both feature New Yorker Tim Armacost on saxophone and London based U.S. bassist Michael Janisch on double bass. The New York Standards Quartet also features pianist David Berkman and drummer Gene Jackson.

Alex Garnett’s Bunch of 5, performing music from this year’s much lauded album ‘Andromeda,’ bring the classic duelling saxophone format into a contemporary context. The quintet includes Liam Noble on piano and one of London’s in demand young drummers, Andrew Bain.

Both bands have their latest albums on Janisch’s Whirlwind Recordings and everyone who attends will receive a free 15-track sampler album featuring an eclectic mix of music from across the label’s catalogue.

The New York Standards Quartet will also be performing at the Cambridge Modern Jazz Club during the new Cambridge Jazz Festival on November 19 and the University of Hull, Staff House (Hull Jazz Festival) on November 20.
