A triumphant 2014 EFG London Jazz Festival draws to a close
The EFG London Jazz Festival ended tonight after ten days of incredible music across the entire city in scores of venues.
The EFG London Jazz Festival drew to a close tonight after ten days of incredible music across the entire city in scores of venues. From major auditoriums to small cafés, premium ticket events to free stages galore, film events, talks, master classes, workshops and q&as, it was a feast of jazz and a triumph. This year over 100,000 people attended events.
As usual the Festival closed with a selection of major events including legendary saxophonist Charles Lloyd at the Barbican and an evening with Robert Wyatt at Queen Elizabeth Hall. Saturday night saw a major celebration of iconic American jazz imprint Blue Note Records 75th anniversary featuring a stunning back to back piano concert from Jason Moran and Robert Glasper at Royal Festival Hall.Â
Glasper was then joined on stage by some of America’s foremost jazz players including Ambrose Akinmusire, Kendrick Scott, Marcus Strickland, Derrick Hodge, and Lionel Loueke.
The Festival also premiered over 20 specially commissioned music projects making it an unparalleled celebration of jazz.
