Recorded at Temple University in Philadelphia during 1966 'Offering' is released late September 2014 with the blessing of the Coltrane estate and with the full livery of Impulse Records. The band includes wife Alice Coltrane on piano, Pharoah Sanders on reeds and flute, Sonny Johnson and Jimmy Garrison on bass and drummer Rashied Ali with guests alongside a Trane in intensely creative and energetic mode. At times he dispenses with his saxophone as if all possibilities have been exhausted, beating his chest and hollering. This mouthwatering combo stretches out on Coltrane favourites including Naima, Leo, My Favorite Things and a 26 minute workout on Crescent. The energy and intensity is all the more poignant considering his impending death from liver cancer just eight months later.
The release is presented by Resonance Records on double CD with 24 page booklet and audiophile pleasing 180 gram full weight double vinyl LP.
