The nominations are out for the 2019 Grammy Awards, including categories for jazz, soul, R&B, blues, American roots music and production. Among the big names this year are Tony Bennett and Diana Krall for their recent duets album ‘Love is Here to Stay’, they’re up against Willie Nelson, Seal and Gregory Porter for his ‘Nat King Cole and Me’ project in the best vocal jazz album category.

Lalah Hathaway is nominated three times – for best R&B performance, best traditional R&B performance and best R&B album, while Jazz FM’s own Marcus Miller is up for best contemporary instrumental album; he’s up against Steve Gadd, Simon Phillips, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah and Julian Lage.

Meanwhile, the hotley contested vocal jazz category contains Kurt Elling, Freddy Cole, Kate McGarry, Raul Midon and last year’s winner Cecile McLorin Salvant. Arranger Vince Mendoza clocks up three nominations for his work with both Raul Midon and Gregory Porter, while Netflix’s Quincy Jones documentary, produced by his daughter Rashida is up for best music film.
