A woman is launching a taxi firm in Bradford, aimed at women and children passengers, in the hope it will make them feel safer.

Amberine Nawaz launched Pink Ladies taxis just over a year ago in Skipton, and is now expanding to Bradford.

Women and children will be their priority, and the female taxi drivers can choose to decline the ride.

She said: "In the Bradford area, I have now secured an office, I pick the keys up on Sunday, so we're going to be in Westgate in town, and there it will be just for women, children unless there's a couple."

She also said: "If there's a couple yes, we will take both, male female. But otherwise yeah it's more for women, children and the vulnerable residents on Bradford."

The idea for a female only fleet stemmed from feeling unsafe when sending her daughter in a taxi.

Amberine explained: "There wasn't any sort of service, that I felt was safe enough for my daughter. Previously when we lived down south, we had a huge fleet of vehicles we owned a taxi firm, me and my ex-partner so any of those drivers, any of those drivers I felt comfortable picking up my daughter.

"As I've moved up here and as a single parents, I didn't feel my daughter was safe with anybody.

They'll be bright pink so you can't miss them and Amberine hopes the fleet will be up and running by the middle of January.
