Singer Will Young has cancelled a gig later this week in Leeds after coming down with a throat infection.

The Pop Idol star was due to play the City Varieties Music Hall on Thursday night, promising an "evening of acoustic performances, stories and conversation".

However in a message posted on social media the 45 year old wrote that he'd been advised to "rest" and not to "sing for the rest of the week".

"I am really disappointed to say I have had to postpone my shows in Sheffield, Lincoln, Leeds, Aberystwyth and Manchester" he added.

"We are working on rescheduling the date right now, so please hold on to your tickets until we have an update".

The singer, who shot to fame in 2002, has just released new album Light It Up.
