Xscape Yorkshire near Castleford is to keep its cinema, after multiplex firm Vue announced plans to take over the site's Cineworld.

It was announced earlier this month that the Cineworld in Castleford would be closing as part of a financial shake-up at its parent company.

Vue, which currently runs 92 cinemas across the UK and Ireland, has now confirmed it will move in once the current tenant has left.

Jason Warren, Centre Director at Xscape Yorkshire, said, “As an epicentre of entertainment in Yorkshire, we want to ensure visitors can experience the ultimate family day out, and continue to enjoy the latest blockbusters and the best of British films.

“We’re really excited to welcome Vue to Xscape and offer visitors the very best – and the most comfortable - big screen entertainment.

"We can’t wait to announce the opening date and invite everyone to step inside and experience this new cinema venue.”

An opening date for the Vue is yet to be confirmed.
