Two men arrested over investigation into non-recent child sex offences in Calderdale

Police gave made two arrests in connection with an investigation into non-recent child sexual abuse in Calderdale.

The men, who are 60 and 75, were arrested in Ilkeston in Derbyshire and Hyde in Greater Manchester yesterday.

Both have been released under investgation.

It comes after reports of the abuse of a child in the Todmorden area in 1987 and 1988.

A third man, aged 65, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of indecent images following the police search of a home.

Detective Inspector Emma Dillon, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“Safeguarding and protecting children is a top priority for the Force and this operation forms part of West Yorkshire Police’s ongoing commitment to investigating both current and non-recent sexual offences against children.

“Child sexual abuse and exploitation is an abhorrent and heinous crime and one which affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

“We would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, no matter when it took place, to report it to the police. You will be listened to, taken seriously and supported by professionals with experience of dealing with these kinds of offences.”
