Teenage girls arrested over assault on train conductor in West Yorkshire

Two teenage girls have been arrested following reports a train conductor was assaulted on a journey between Leeds and Ilkley.

British Transport Police were called to Burley in Wharfedale station at around 20:33 BST on Monday night (May 27).

The two girls - aged 14 and 16 - have since been released on bail.

In a statement, operator Northern said: "This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we are providing support to the conductor who was involved.

“Northern do not tolerate threatening, abusive or violent behaviour towards our staff and we work closely with British Transport Police to help them identify and prosecute offenders.”
