Work on new Bradford city centre park nears completion
Turf is set to be put down on the new Norfolk Gardens Park next week
TURF in a new city centre park will be laid next week as the new public greenspace nears completion.
The past week has seen contractors planting shrubs and plants in the new Norfolk Gardens Park – the space being created on the former Hall Ings.
With most of the tree, shrub and flower planting now nearing completion, the ground has been prepared for the turf to be laid starting Monday.
Paving and new pathways in the new linear park space and outside the former Hall Ings car park is also nearing completion.
Many of the plans that will be found in the park have links to the dyes used in Bradford’s once thriving wool trade. The park will also have 20 species of trees including silver, black and red birches.
The project is expected to be completed in Spring – although a final date of completion has yet to be disclosed.
The latest update on the work from Bradford Council said: “The installation of paving in the area is almost finished and the team will now be continuing on from previous work to install resin-bound gravel to the foot and cycle ways in the area, as the final touches to the space are added.
“Work at Norfolk Gardens continues to move at pace, as the planting of various trees, shrubs and plants nears completion, and grass turfing to be laid starting from next week.”
This week has also seen more fencing removed from some of the landscaped areas around the city. The fencing had remained in place while turf and plants could settle but now areas such as the “pocket park” on Little Horton Lane are now fully open.
The work has been funded by the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund, and has seen swathes of the city centre pedestrianised.
