MP's to debate and vote on Assisted Dying Bill tomorrow
A historic vote - fronted by Spen Valley's Kim Leadbeater - is set to take place tomorrow in the House of Commons over whether terminally ill people have the right to die
Tomorrow (Friday 29 November) MP's will debate and vote on whether they back a bill, fronted by a West Yorkshire MP.
Kim Leadbeater insisted it is taking "absolutely the right route" through Parliament after it was criticised as an "utterly inadequate" way to deal with the controversial issue.
The Spen Valley MP defended the level of scrutiny her Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will get.
The Bill is due to have a five-hour debate on Friday - the first such debate in the Commons on the issue in almost a decade - with a vote expected at the end on whether it should pass through to be scrutinised by a committee.
MPs have been given a free vote, meaning they can follow their conscience rather than party orders.
Kim, in the last month has been hosting events in her consistency, including in Liversedge to hear from people who are in support of the bill.
One woman told us: "All my mum wanted was choice, that's all she wanted was the choice to have her own death in her own control and be able to make decisions around it."
Another woman said: "I've always been in favour ever since I was young, more so I've watched three people I love die in terrible circumstances."
Those against the plans said they would rather there be a focus on palliative care and more funding for hospices.
