Cameron Smith and Ash Handley named as Leeds Rhinos co-captains
The pair will share duties between them for the 2025 season
Leeds Rhinos have named Cameron Smith and Ash Handley as the side's co-captains for the upcoming season.
Boss Brad Arthur has made the decision, with Handley stepping up from the vice-captain role to one of equal standing with Smith for the 2025 campaign.
Leeds Rhinos Director of Culture, Diversity and Inclusivity Jamie Jones-Buchanan has likened the pair to Kevin Sinfield, a former Rhinos captain and Jamie Peacock, the former GB and England captain - who both played in the same team at the same time.
Jones-Buchanan said: “Kev and Jamie were different types of leaders but they shared a common bond to get the very best out of each of their team mates."
"They set the standard that everyone had to bring their very best to every session and every game.
"I had the privilege to play with Cameron and Ash at the end of my career, and they are two of the most passionate people about Leeds Rhinos and they want this group of players to succeed.
"I think they will help and support each other in the role and I am excited to see the future of this group under their leadership.”
Cameron Smith commented, “I am over the moon to be sharing this role with Ash. We have come through the journey together, side by side, we have got a really exciting squad and I am looking forward to a successful year with the team.”
Handley said: “I am honoured to be named co-captain and very proud. We have got a massive year ahead of us."
"It is about what we do going forward and we want to get this club where it belongs to be.
"Everyone in the group has bought into that, both on and off the field, and they know what is expected of them.
"The standard of training in the first two weeks has been impressive."
