A Bradford man has been jailed for more than two years after attempting to help his friend avoid punishment for running a red light.

Atique Khan, aged 44, of Grantham Terrace, admitted to conspiring to pervert the course of justice at Bradford Crown Court last Thursday (December 5).

It follows an incident in which a car driven by 30 year old Kashif Khan, of Durham Road, was seen running a red light on the A650 Keighley Road on the morning of July 25 2021.

Details given to police by Kashif were later found to have been also used by others trying to avoid prosecutions.

All were linked to Atique.

Kashif also claimed to have left the car at a non-existent garage at the time the offence happened. The address was also found to be connection to Atique.

Atique will serve a 26 month sentence, while Kashif has been given an 18 month sentence suspended to two years.

Speaking after sentencing, Rachel Wainwright, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“Perverting the cause of justice is a serious offence and I hope this outcome sends out a clear message that we will thoroughly investigate matters where people are suspected of interfering with legal processes.”
