Woman dies after collision on the M5 near Bridgwater

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident involving a pedestrian and a lorry.

A woman has died after a collision on the M5 near Bridgwater this morning.

The incident, involving a pedestrian and a lorry, was reported at around ten to three. It took place on the northbound carriageway between junctions 24 and 23.

Police, the ambulance service and fire crews attended the scene of the accident. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a woman, aged in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers have informed her next of kin and are keeping them updated.

The motorway was closed in both directions while investigations were undertaken. The southbound carriageway reopened earlier this morning,

The northbound lane remains closed and National Highways advise drivers to allow for extra journey time.

Police ask if anyone who witnessed the collision or were in the area at the time and have any dashcam footage, to call them on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5225084212.
