Dozens of snow-stranded motorists in Sussex have to shelter in pub overnight

Heavy snowfall in Sussex last night forced around 40 people to take shelter in a pub last night after the roads became impassable.
Staff at the Bear Inn, in Burwash, said families with babies and children were among those who showed up yesterday afternoon.
Most of them slept on the floor as beds were already fully booked.
Dr Alexandra Loske, who was supposed to be working at Brighton Pavilion this morning, took refuge there with her husband and teenage daughter.
She said: “It was like this great Christmas story.
“Warm open arms, absolutely amazing, the manager, Pauline, said, ‘come in, we're here for you, just stay if you want, there are hot drinks for you and a log fire going’, and she wouldn't accept any money.
“I was quite stressed and tired, but glad to be there. It's just incredible.”
The pub provided hot drinks and refreshments to those in need as the UK experienced the coldest night of the year so far.
A yellow weather warning for ice remains in place for parts of Sussex – with freezing temperatures expected to last until just before midday tomorrow.
Dozens of school closures were also announced this morning due to the snow and power outages in some areas.
