The family of a North Yorkshire school girl say they "couldn't be prouder" after she helped rescue her Mum and siblings after their house caught fire.

Six year old Olivia was playing across the road from the property in Riccall near Selby when she saw the smoke.

She went into the house to wake up her Mum and younger brother and sister who were sleeping on the sofa.

"No fear whatsoever"

Her Grandma Sadie says she's a hero: "She just ran in, obviously didn't think of the dangers which is Olivia. The house had only just started smoking, there wasn't any danger to her. She managed to get them out but it was quite frightening."

"I think she is bewildered by it all. She just think it's my Mummy and my siblings, and my brother and sister. There was no fear whatsoever."

More than £5,000 has been set up to support the family. Sadie says she's overwhelmed by how much people want to help: "Laura wasn't insured. She had only just finished decorating the house. People around there are brilliant, all lovely people and honestly she's lost everything. Upstairs is all gone and it's water damage now."

"All the kids toys, their Christmas, their birthdays, and Olivia bless her has lost the most. All her teddies, beanie teddies and all that she was collecting. She lost the most but she has been ever so good about it."

"To get Laura back on her feet, and especially the children to get their toys back and everything else. It's just a helping hand and I really do, bless them all, it really fills me up what people have done for her."
