Man and woman injured in vehicle and machete attack in Wakefield

Police patrols in Wakefield have been stepped up after a man and a woman were attacked.

One of them was struck by a vehicle - and the other assaulted with a machete - early this morning at around 4.53am (Saturday 23rd December).

Both suffered serious injuries and they're now recovering in hospital.

No one's been arrested so far.

At 4.53 this morning officers were called to reports a man and woman had been assaulted on Dewsbury Road, Wakefield.

It’s understood that a woman was deliberately hit by a vehicle, she has been taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.

A short while later a man was assaulted with a machete causing serious injuries to his leg.

A scene is in place whilst enquiries are ongoing.

Local neighbourhood patrol teams are in the area to provide reassurance.
