A man living in the Sighthill area of Glasgow says he's been forced to move out of his council flat because rats have chewed through his toilet pipes leaving a constant smell of sewage.
Jan Toprak first discovered the rodents last year and says he's worried he'll catch a serious infection if he stays the night.
He told Hits Radio: "They've damaged different pipes around the bathroom and I've just had an operation so can't risk catching an infection.
"I've been asking for a new house for months and I get passed from pillar to post.
"The place constantly stinks of faeces and opening the windows or using air fresheners makes no difference."
Pictures show rat droppings on his bathroom floor.
He has been staying with his mum since December because he's too afraid to spend the night on his own.
"When I went back last week, there were traces of the rats everywhere, it's disgusting."
Neighbours in the area have also been raising concerns about the growing number of rats over the last few months.
Michael Carey said: "I don't like going out in the dark because I often see them scurrying about the roads.
"I often hear them in the walls and under the floorboards."
Jean Monaghan added: "I've got cats and I'm worried they could catch a disease from a rat or a dying rat when they go into the garden.
"Sometimes I look outside and can see the little eyes looking up at me."
A Wheatley Homes Glasgow spokesperson said: “The first we were made aware of this was December and we’re doing all we can to deal with any reports of a rat in our homes.
“Pest control have already been out several times to bait the area. On top of that, we’ve also brought in a specialist pest control team to carry out treatment inside the home.
“As soon as all of the treatment is complete, we will arrange for any repairs to be completed, including replacing damaged items.
“We will continue to keep in regular contact with the tenant and do all we can to help.”
