A man from Birmingham has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for sexual offences against women and children.

Christopher Johnson, 41, of Dunvegan Road targeted three of his victims while they slept and they awoke to find him sexually assaulting them. One one occasion, he raped a woman and said he couldn't control himself because he was also asleep.

He sexually assaulted a second woman while she was asleep and claimed he was looking for his glasses.

He digitally penetrated another victim while she slept.

His youngest victim was eight years old when he raped her.

His crimes, which took place from 2012 to 2023, came to light after he was spotted filming a young girl under the cubicle at a local swimming pool.

Cagin Husnu of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Christopher Johnson is a dangerous individual who preyed on vulnerable victims for his own perverted gratification. Had he not been caught he would most likely have continued his offending with no regard for the dignity and wellbeing of the victims.

“Thanks to the bravery and quick-thinking of a child at a swimming pool, who alerted her carers to Johnson recording her as she got changed, he was arrested by the police. Following Johnson’s arrest, further victims including two young children came forward to report the sexual abuse they had suffered at Johnson’s hands.

“I would like to praise all the victims for their courage and support of the prosecution case. Christopher Johnson has been sentenced to a lengthy term of imprisonment, which reflects the seriousness of his actions and the impact on victims."

Johnson was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court of:

  • five counts of rape
  • three counts of making indecent photographs of children
  • two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • two counts of assault by penetration
  • one count of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
  • one count of attempted rape
  • one count of sexual assault
  • one count of voyeurism
