Unexploded grenade found in Chester-le-Street field

A section of the A167 Park Road North in Chester-le-Street has been closed in both directions.

The road closure follows the discovery of potential unexploded ordnance in a field next to the road and a cordon has been put in place.

Workmen carrying our landscaping works in the area have discovered what appears to be a rusted hand grenade which requires safe disposal.

The closure is likely to be in place for several hours and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.
