Three men arrested after officers confronted with "large knives" in Stockton
The incident took place just after 11:30am on Saturday morning
Three men have been arrested after police officers were confronted by men carrying "large knives".
Officers said they were patrolling the area around Parliament Street in Stockton-on-Tees at around 11:30am on Saturday (October 5th) when the incident occured.
According to the force, police had been present on the street in the south of the town when they encountered a number of men who had been brandishing "large knives".
After seeing the men, officers were able to arrest three men - two men aged 23 and one man aged 24.
All three men were arrested on suspicion of affray and currently remain in police custody as investigators look into the incident.
Enquiries are also taking place to see if any other men who had fled the scene as officers interjected could be identified.
Cleveland Police confirmed there would be an increased police presence to reassure the local community.
An appeal has been launched into the incident, with anyone who may have any relevant information being urged to speak to police as soon as possible.
