The MP for Hartlepool says he has hit the ground running try to raise issues to get effective change for the town.

Labour's Jonathan Brash says it has been a 'whirlwind' since being elected on the 4th of July.

He said: "I've managed to meet with representatives of the nuclear industry to discuss new investment in Hartlepool. I've managed to liaise with the Secretary of State for Education around the pausing of level three cirruculum reform. I've questioned the Home Secretary on issues of aslyum, off-road bikes and the issues around anti-social behaviour and crime.

"For me, the priorities don't change because it's about getting new good well-paid jobs into Hartlepool. It's about making our streets safe so that people don't live in fear in our communities, and it's about ensuring that there are opportunities there for everyone to get the skills they need to live a full life.

"If you take off-road bikes, which I know is causing a lot of fear and distress to people, balaclava yobs quite frankly on off-road bikes causing a lot of distress to people. The Home Secretary was able to confirm that they're introducing new legislation that will allow us to seize and destroy those bike within 48 hours.

"She also confirmed to me that it's also possible for police to pursue people on those bikes but of course local decisions around safety have to be made. On the issues like new nuclear and jobs, I've met with the department and they're talking really positively about the opportunities for Hartlepool. These are the key priorities. It's early days but we're making the necessary first steps."
