Yellow weather warning as heavy rain expected across parts of East Anglia
Eastern parts of Norfolk and Suffolk can expect some heavy downpours later
Last updated 4th Jul 2023
We're being warned to expect heavy downpours and the possibility of localised flooding across parts of East Anglia this evening.
The Met Office has a yellow weather warning in place for the eastern half of both Norfolk and Suffolk.
We could see some difficult conditions out on the roads, while there's the small chance of powercuts or damage to buildings from high winds.
The warning will be in force from 9pm tonight (July 4) until 6am tomorrow.
It comes as last month was the hottest on record in UK history.
The East of England saw some of the warmest conditions, as temperatures across the UK averaged around 15.8C.
The previous record was 14.9C, set in 1940 and 1976.
The Met Office also said the UK had had 68% of its average rainfall for June, with 52.2mm of rainfall.
Mark McCarthy, who works in the Met Office team responsible for weather and climate records, said: "It's officially the hottest June on record for the UK, for mean temperature as well as average maximum and minimum temperature.
"June started with a good deal of high pressure and temperatures initially around average for many, but once that subsided, warm, humid air began to influence temperatures, with 32.2C the highest temperatures reached.
"What's striking is the persistent warmth for much of the month, with temperatures widely into the mid-20s Celsius for many and even into the low 30s at times."
