Work has started to transform a derelict building on Ipswich Waterfront into a new leisure facility for the town.
The 100 year old Burtons building once served as a warehouse for the Port of Ipswich, but has long been disused.
Ipswich Borough Council is currently working on designs which would bring the building back into use, with conversion work due to begin in early 2024.
Council contractors have completed work to remove rubbish from the basement of the building, to enable surveyors to have a closer look at the condition of the warehouse.
Councillor Martin Cook, of Ipswich Borough Council, said:
“Redevelopment of the former Burtons building is a key part of the regeneration of Ipswich Waterfront, so we’re pleased to see works progressing to bring this empty building back into use.
The building represents an important part of Ipswich’s history and will become a leisure destination for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
