A new £5.3m Breast Cancer Centre at Ipswich Hospital is on track to be finished this year.

The Colchester and Ipswich Hopsitals charity have just over £500,000 left to raise for the project, with work due to be begin in the spring.

£4.8m has already been secured towards the overall cost through The Blossom Appeal.

The state of the art centre is to be located in the outpatients area of the hospital.

Doctors think it could improve patient care by bringing all elements of breast canceer care under one room.

A clinic, imaging department and hospital breast screening service will all be part of the development.

Consultant breast surgeon Caroline Mortimer said:

“When were informed at the end of last year that construction would start during spring 2022, it was the best Christmas present ever.

“The plans for the new Breast Care Centre are amazing, we are so excited at the prospect of seeing them converted into reality. It will be a wonderful facility which will make such a difference for staff and patients alike.”
