Suffolk Police have launched a criminal damage appeal, after a taxi was damaged while driving through Bury St Edmunds.

A vacuum cleaner cable had been wrapped around a lamp-post on Out Westgate, then spread across the road.

Around 3am on Saturday (18th December), it got caught in a passing taxi, which caused the vacuum cleaner to be pulled into the road, hitting the vehicle.

The taxi was dented and scratched.

In a statement, Suffolk Police added: "Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area prior to the incident. Anyone driving in Out Westgate in the early hours of Saturday morning with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle is asked to review the footage.

"Anyone with information about this offence is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Neighbourhood Response Team, quoting reference 71638/21."
