Three year jail sentence for man who used metal pole in Ipswich assault
Ciuraru hit his victim from behind, leaving him with a serious head injury
A man has been jailed for over three years after attacking a man in Ipswich with a metal pole, leaving him with serious head injuries.
38 year old Mihaita Ciuraru of St John’s Road has handed a 40 month sentence at Ipswich Crown Court after admitting to wounding with intent in connection with the incident on Jult 20 2022.
The victim, a 44 year old man, was approached from behind by Ciuraru after leaving a shop on Stoke Bridge.
Ciuraru then hit him twice in the head with a metre-long metal pole, before running back across Stoke Bridge.
The victim needed 12 stitches to his head.
Ciuraru was arrested in Germany in January and was extradited back to the UK to face charges.
DC Jack Evans of Ipswich CID said: “This was an extremely aggressive and cowardly attack by Ciuraru on someone he knew."
"It was a busy time of day with vehicles driving past and numerous members of public witnessing the attack.
"I’d like to thank the members of the public who came to the victim’s aid at the time and who were willing to provide crucial evidence as witnesses.”
