Residents of Ipswich's The Mill flats call for action in Bury St Edmunds protest
The Mill is a 23 storey tower which dominates Ipswich Waterfront
Residents of a tower block in Ipswich have held a protest outside the offices of an administrator calling for more to be down to solve major structural issues which have plagued the building for a decade.
Leaseholders and homeowners at The Mill, a 23-storey tower on Ipswich Waterfront, demonstrated outside the offices of RSM, in Bury St Edmunds.
RSM took over responsbility for The Mill after its original owners went bust.
The tower was completed in 2009 but cladding fitted to the outside of the building suffered major damage in 2013 due to gale force winds.
The building is also affected by similar fire safety issues to its neighbour Cardinal Lofts.
As of today there has been little progress in addressing problems with the building, despite RSM being successful in taking the company which built the original development to court.
Russell Quirk, Spokesperson for The Mill Leaseholders Association, said: "These 237 leaseholders can neither sell their properties... can't remortgage them.. effectively now they're in cladding purgatory.
"They're unable to do anything with their own properties whether they want to or not."
"RSM are holding the livelihoods of 237 leaseholders in their own hands."
"The real frustration is the lack of communication from RSM and the lack of empathy".
RSM told us it wouldn't be able to comment on the issue, however the firm has previously said it is 'working closely' with residents to find a solution.
