The Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds has temporarily closed with immediate effect.

In a statement published online, they say it's due to an unforeseen fire safety issue and that they're working to re-open as soon as possible.

Last night's performance of Suffolk Young People’s Theatre’s, 'Ghost, The Musical' was cancelled.

Theatre mangers say they're not yet sure whether tonight and Saturday's performances will go ahead, but that they'll let the public know by 2pm today (Friday).

They say those with tickets for the affected performances will receive a full refund or be moved to an alternative performance if those are safe to proceed.

They've apologised saying: "We deeply regret this situation, but this is sometimes the nature of running and maintaining an historical building."
