While surge testing continues on the South Norfolk border, we're being reassured it's not required in Suffolk yet.

The County Council is on standby, should they be asked to check for the presence of the South African variant of coronavirus here.

Leader of the authority, Councillor Matthew Hicks said:

"We have had a surge team ready if needed and if the Government asks us to carry out that work we will obviously be able to action that.

"That's part of the planning process so that we are ready if called on."

Norfolk County Council has been checking for the varient in Roydon and Diss, with similar checks underway in Essex.
