Suffolk Police given extra funding to cover the cost of policing the pandemic

Suffolk Police is getting a share of £522,350 from the national funding announced by Priti Patel today.
It's to go towards covering the extra costs of policing during the pandemic, things like overtime and making police stations Covid-secure.
The Home Office says since the start of the pandemic officers across the country have played a crucial role in helping to stop the spread of the virus by enforcing the Covid-19 regulations, while continuing with their normal investigations.
This new round of funding brings the total amount made available to forces since the start of the pandemic to £200m.
It comes ahead of some forces assisting with the enforcement of new travel and quarantine rules from Monday.
Additional officers are going to be stationed at airports and ports to support the enforcement of new regulations including the mandatory quarantine scheme.
Forces involved in those efforts will receive a share of £2m to help cover costs of the additional activity to the end of March.

"The public also have a vital part to play - this includes not travelling unless essential, which is why police will also be stepping up checks at airports.
"We are committed to supporting them as they continue this crucial activity and are providing specific funding for coronavirus costs."
