Suffolk Fire crews were among emergency services called to a light aircraft crash in north Essex earlier, during which a man in his 70s was fatally injured.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident in Pebmarsh Road, Halstead, which saw the craft catch fire.

Fire crews from Sudbury, alongside colleagues with the ambulance service and Essex Police, first responded to calls shortly before 9.30am this morning (August 21).

The man, who died at the scene, was the sole occupant of the aircraft.

A spokesperson said: "Officers continue to work alongside investigators with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch to establish the circumstances around this incident".
