A Stowmarket man has been jailed for nine months after making multiple bogus 999 calls to the police and ambulance service.

61 year old Andrew Alden, of Pintail Road, had previously been served with a criminal behaviour order after previous calls to the emergency services, which tied up call handlers.

He appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Friday (December 2) where he admitted to 15 counts of breaching his criminal behaviour order and one count of sending false message by public electronic communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety.

He was jailed for nine months and ordered to pay a total of £600 in compensation.

Between March and November he made 73 bogus calls to the police from his home, along with a 'significant' number of calls to the ambulance service.

He was already the subject to a court order that prevented him from contacting 999 or 111 unless in a genuine emergency after being convicted in 2020.
