Six people have been jailed for a combined 51 years over a knife crime conspiracy in Ipswich.

It comes after police were called to Ulster Avenue at 7:25pm on August 10 to reports of threatening behaviour and threats being made to kill.

Six teenagers were arrested at the scene and two long 'machete-style' knives were later retrieved from nearby bushes.

Those sentenced at Norwich Crown Court include:

  • Shakur O’Connor, 20, of Packard Avenue, Ipswich - nine years for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
  • Malaki Greaves-O’Connor, 20, of Highfield Road, Felixstowe - nine years for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
  • Braydon Byng, 19, of Newnham Court, Ipswich - eight years and six months for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
  • Tiago Dos Santos, 19, of Belle Vue Road, Ipswich - nine years for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
  • Two 17 year olds, who can't ben names, will serve eight years and seven and a half years respectively for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

Following the sentencing Suffolk Police DC Jack Evans said: “This incident and the subsequent sentence shows the police and the justice system’s zero-tolerance approach to violence in our county.

“Seeing young people making threats to kill while handling such lethal weapons is extremely worrying.

"However, officers were quickly at the scene on the day and this response on top of the investigative work carried out by numerous different teams afterwards, has led to this successful conviction.

“If you need support leaving a gang or you are concerned for a friend or family member, advice is available.”
