Ipswich Town has announced plans for Portman Road to go cashless for the 2022/23 season.

It's part of a new system designed to ease queueing and waiting times, while also increasing hygiene at the home ground.

Cash payments will still be accepted at Planet Blue and at programme kiosks but the bars and Beattie's will accept card payments only.

Hospitality areas and kiosks in the concourses will also move to card payments only.

Cashless bars were first trialled at Portman Road during the 2021/22 season, as a way to reduce the risk from Covid-19.

Speaking to the ITFC website, Director of Venue Stuart Cox said:

“Part of that includes increasing the number of tills available to supporters. In previous seasons we have had as many as 90 but for 2022/23 we are hoping to have 130 tills operating on a matchday at Portman Road.

“That enables more touch points for fans to access kiosks and again should improve the wait time for supporters.

“Overall, going cashless should make the experience much smoother and efficient for both the Club and, most importantly, the supporters.”

The entire retail arm of ITFC, including Planet Blue, will go cashless from November.
