There are plans to move a Suffolk primary school to a new site with more space to expand.

Suffolk County Council is considering proposals to move the Lakenheath Community Primary School from its current site on Mill Road to a new location on Station Road by 2025.

The new school would have an extra 105 places and room for further expansion in the coming years.

The current site is expected to exceed its capacity of 315 pupils in the new few years.

This proposal is being considered instead of plans to build a second school in the village, with councillors saying this is more financially viable.

Dawn Bluett, Chair of Governors, said:

“The Governing body of Lakenheath Community Primary School welcomes the option of a new single expanded primary school for the Lakenheath community.

"We look forward to working constructively in partnership with education colleagues from Suffolk County Council to seek positive solutions and reassurances to a number of concerns we have for the successful development and implementation of our new community school location and building facilities.”

Rachel Hood from Suffolk County Council, said:

“We will work closely with the school and the community to ensure the new site and building are a positive outcome for everyone, and we will continue to address any concerns raised."

"This proposal supports the needs of the growing community, and is part of our on-going review of the capacity of Suffolk schools and planned housing developments.

"The new building will provide a modern and bright space for pupils and staff and will be purpose built to suit the specific circumstances of the village.”
