Plans have been submitted to revamp a square in the centre of Ipswich.

Arras Square, which is next to the Buttermarket Centre and St Stephen's Church, will get new benches themed after mythical creatures following a public vote.

There are also wider improvements plans, including new paving. drainage, lighting, CCTV, bins and trees.

A new mural will also brighten up the square.

The proposals have been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council, with a final decision expected in late summer.

Work could be finished by autumn next year if all goes to plan.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said:

“It’s clear that local people want us to improve Arras Square. "

"This scheme will deliver a much-improved space where people can enjoy their surroundings and visit local businesses, including the new music venue at St Stephen’s Church opening in a few weeks.”
